It is with the heaviest hearts that the VILFHA community mourn the sudden passing of Jennifer Joanna Budding (nee van Dyk). Jen was a lot to many not least of which included being an amazing mom, wife, daughter, teacher, coach, friend and person.

Jen was born and raised in Victoria and went on to play five years at the University of Victoria as a Vike, where she was a CIAU National Champion in each of 1991, 1992 and 1994. She is well known as a long-time teacher in the Cowichan School District and certainly very well known for helping coach the Cowichan Secondary School field hockey team to numerous provincial championships over many, many years.

Jen was among a prestigious list of dedicated volunteers that fulfilled the role as President of the the VILFHA ladies league. She was a talented player, a dedicated coach, a volunteer at the 2008 Women’s Olympic Qualifier in Victoria, a dedicated Vikes alumni and so, so much more.

She touched so many people and she will most certainly be missed. Her memory will live on every time we step on the field to play or take time to grow this sport as a coach.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jen’s memory may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (www.JDRF.ca).
