In addition, the Vikes women’s field hockey team will host the UBC Thunderbirds for their Canada West regular season match ups. The Vikes and T-Birds will battle it out on Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 8-9) with both games at 11am. Spectators must have tickets (govikesgo.com/tickets).

On Tuesday, September 26 the University of Victoria’s largest athletic fundraising event will feature one of Vancouver Island’s best. Former national team member, Olympian, Vikes national champion and long-time VILFHA member Nancy Mollenhauer (Charlton) will keynote the event that typically has over 600 guests in attendance. Mollenhauer follows a list of iconic previous keynote speakers including Olympians Simon Whitfield, Darcy Marquardt and Adam Kreek, Paralympian Stephanie Dixon, author Dr. Paul Zehr and former Vikes basketball star Chris Hebb.

The announcement comes after Mollenhauer’s recent mention of being inducted into the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame, while she is already a member of the Field Hockey Canada and University of Victoria Sports Hall of Fames. Having played on the Canadian national women’s field hockey team from 1982 to 1989, during which she attended two Olympic games, two World Cups and a Pan American Games, Nancy Mollenhauer can be best characterized by her incredible athleticism and unwavering love of the game.

Additionally, Mollenhauer had a successful varsity career with the University of Victoria Vikettes from 1980 to 1985, captaining the team in her final year to its first CIAU title and winning CIAU Athlete of the Year twice (1983-84, 1984-85) and All-Canadian twice (1983-84, 1984-85) along the way.

All money that is raised through this special event will be matched (doubled) by the University, up to $200,000; and will be used for scholarship money specifically for women’s field hockey (if you tick that box).
